Shhhh… I’m letting you in on a secret that could save you a lot of time and headaches at the airport if you are heading for any international travel. There is now a line at the airport that is like a FASTPASS for Disney. You don’t have to come back at an exact time, but you get the benefits of a designated line that moves much quicker. Usually you are TSA approved as well, so that gets you in the “special” line that lets you leave your belt and shoes on. Having your feet touch the floor at an airport is reason enough to get Global Entry. You also do not have to take out electronics. Have I convinced you yet?
Let me introduce you to Global Entry. “Global Entry is a program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States,” says its website.
Here is what you do:
- Go to their website and fill out an application. The link is https://goesapp.cbp.dhs.gov/main/goes. There is a $100 fee for this service. (As you pay this, think about all the people you will be bypassing in the line at the airport as you get in and out of the country stress-free).
- Once your application is reviewed and you are approved, you will be instructed to set up an interview. You need to check where the interview sites are located, but most are at the nearest airport. It may take some time to get an interview so plan ahead.
- At your interview you will verify your information and get fingerprinted. In several weeks you will get a Global Entry card in the mail. You do not need to carry the card to travel unless you are crossing borders by car into Mexico or Canada.
- Once you get your approval, you are ready for your next international trip!
When you enter the United States look for the automatic kiosks at select airports and follow the instructions. (Put in your passport, and scan your fingerprints.) The machine will spit you out a receipt and you head through customs FAST).
That is it.
