Happy New Year!
2017 snuck in before I had a chance to post this blog. A new year needs a new approach. This year will be my Year of Adventure. I know adventure means different things to different people but for me it means going to places that I haven’t been; doing things that I haven’t done and eating things I haven’t tried before. Adventure is the unknown and I plan on spending this year discovering what is out there.
This adventurous spirit is prompted by being restricted by ACL reconstruction surgery. I have noticed that as I get older, things don’t work like they used to and I am concerned that my dreams of hiking in the Alps, swimming with the whale sharks, exploring caves and caverns in New Zealand, and other physical activities might be off the table if I don’t start doing some of these things now. I think about how active I am and how, as I get older, my body is restricting what my mind wants to do. I still think I can do the same things as when I was 20, but it just ain’t so.
I’m ready to get started now but the ACL has to heal first. So as I patiently wait and work at physical therapy, I am planning for adventure. Certainly there are limits to what I will throw myself into, but I look forward to saying yes more often. Here is what I’m planning so far:
Hiking in the Red Rock State Park in Arizona
Riding a pedal tavern in Nashville
Taking a flying course for spouses to know what the hell is going on in a small plane (but who don’t want to pilot)
Joining a program to teach adults to read
Going to Prague and Dubrovnik
Truffle hunting- yes that is a thing!
You only get one life, so make it count.
